Cali I think you are right.  He tried to save his life.
Do you know that life in prison is really only 30 years.
I didn't know that. So he could get out.

Unless it's specified "Life WithOut Parole"....then he can't get out, no parole.

I pray to god he doesn't get out.  Sorry!

No need to be sorry....he killed her, he deserves what he gets.

I also don't know why your worried that he'll get out/
i'm sure the plea deal involves LWOP in lieu of the death penalty...
So, no way he's getting out.  :)(()

I think the only reason why I have fear is because to be honest I don't trust the justice system anymore.  I mean I agree he probably made a deal for life without parole. But I can see something just coming along and messing it up.  I guess it is just my insecurities if you know what I mean.

What were the DA's thinking here?
They plea the case out, and no LWOP or DP?  wqwq

Hacking Gets 6 Years to Life for Murder By PAUL FOY, Associated Press Writer
6 minutes ago

SALT LAKE CITY - Mark Hacking was sentenced Monday to six years to life in prison for the shooting death of his wife while she slept last July, bringing to a close a murder that shocked Utah and still hasn't been fully explained.

Judge Denise Lindberg listened to nearly two hours of emotional testimony before handing down the only sentence she could under Utah law.

Lindberg said only the parole board could determine how long Hacking will ultimately stay in prison, but that she will recommend that he be held "a very long time."

Mark Hacking, 29, said there was no excuse he could offer for his behavior, and that he'd give a thousand lifetimes in prison if he could to amend for his actions.

"She didn't do nothing but love me unconditionally, even when I didn't deserve it. She was the greatest thing that ever happened to me, but I killed her, and took the life of my unborn child and put them in the garbage and I can't explain whey I did it," Hacking said in a halted voice when addressing the judge and family members.

"I put them in the garbage, and they rotted out at the landfill. I'm tormented every waking minute by what I did," he said.

In April, Mark Hacking pleaded guilty to first-degree murder with a brief admission: "I intentionally shot Lori Hacking in the head with a .22 rifle on July 19, 2004."

Utah's system of indeterminate sentences for crimes can be confusing. First-degree murder brings a mandatory five years to life, but Hacking's minimum will be increased to six years because he used a firearm. The judge can only impose the broad range of sentence, leaving it up to Utah's Board of Pardons and Parole to decide when or if Hacking will ever be set free.

I'm going to be the lone man out here.  I know he killed his wife, but I think he is truly sorry, but I'm not the one who is going to judge him, he has to prove himself to our Lord.  That's the only person he has to answer to.  I honestly don't think that Thelma Soares has any bad feelings about Mark, I think she forgave him and she is the most respectful person I would ever want to know.  She has been nothing but a pillar of strength through the whole ordeal, Sharon isn't half of what Thelma is.

The Parole board reviews his case and decides his sentence, however, Utah is n't terrible lenient about murderers. I doubt he will see daylight before he is an old old man.

The Soares family knew that this was the expected sentence. It is really up to God at this point anyway.

I know that he admitted it and all that happy horse  censored but IMO I feel like he really isn't remorseful for what he did.  When I look at him I get this uneasy feeling.  Like he is just trying to say what everyone wants to hear.  I maybe wrong but this is just how I feel.  As for her parents.  Unbelievable strength here.  What a class act.  They have been so strong and so dignified.  Not a bad word has come out of their mouth.  I have such a high respect for them right now.  His parents have been just as great.  I think people could learn from them.

No disrespect, but the bible also says obey the law of the land and "thou shalt not kill".  I hope he rots in prison and never gets out because he just might do it again

No disrespect either, but the Bible also tells us we shouldn't judge either.

IMO  I'm not completely convinced he's sorry for killing his wife... HOWEVER, I do think that 6yrs to life isn't enough time either.  He killed his wife, for whatever reason, and dumped her in the dump like garbage.  This is how we treat the ones we love?  Mental issues??.... yes,  perhaps now, he'll get the help and rehabilitation that he seriously needs.

It also says give him the other cheek.  So quote as you like, IMO, he's remorseful for what he did and if Thelma can forgive him then I have no reason to judge him.  We will just have to agree to disagree. grph

I amnot really sure where I stand on this one.  I can see both sides!!  I just hope that no matter how long he is in there, he will get the help he so desperately needs.  I hope that both families can heal from what has happened!!

No matter what the bible says, we still kill and we still judge.

So in my judgemental view, he should spend the rest of his life in prison.

I hope he gets life. He doesn't deserve to be free, he took her life like a coward.
Sure God forgives  but there are still consequences to actions.
He can be forgiven and still remain behind bars.

I'm sure the hedidits in the Scott Peterson case wish the same, it goes both ways.  I personally do not want to judged on my conscience.

If I offended anyone with my post above, I am really sorry. It was not my intention at all. Just my day to be sarcastic I guess.
